First 100 words:

Endless rain was covering London. A gentle drizzle was tapping on the roof of the hackney carriage, but Josephine was sitting warm and snug inside, pitying the horse driver and a group of women who was standing in a street corner trying to sell flower in this Godforsaken weather. Josephine shivered in sympathy. She remembered all to well what it was like to stand in a street corner, hour after hour. About this story

The short story “Sinful Dealings” was written after I had seen the theatre production of “Doctor Faustus” at Blackwell’s bookshop (in the Norrington Room) in Oxford by The Creation Theatre company.

The story was also slightly inspired by the film of “From Hell” with Johnny Deep and Heather Graham.

I did some background research for “Sinful Dealings” including finding information about the installation of one of the first elevators in London (at the Langham Hotel), as well as researching London and West End theatre district during middle of the 19th century.
